Mailbox Rental FAQs

• Where can I sign up for a new mailbox? — You can visit the store, complete US Postal Form 1583, and provide two valid forms of government issued photo IDs. We'll explain the other services we offer and show you our 24 hour mailbox area and the available mailbox sizes.
• Where can I pick up my mail? — Mailbox holders have 24-hour access to their box with their 24 hour keyless entry access. There is a dedicated entrance to the private mailbox area that is safe and well-lit.
• What mailbox sizes do you offer? — We offer three sizes: small 3 1/2"x 5 1/2", medium 5 1/2" x 5 1/2", and large 6"x11".
• What are the rental agreement timeframes? — We offer six and 12 month terms.
• What is the difference between a private mailbox at Island Pack & Ship Center and a PO Box at the US Post Office? — With a mailbox at Island Pack & Ship Center, you get a real street address - not just a PO Box number. If you're a business owner, having a real street address can provide you with a professional image for your business. We also offer many additional services that the US Post Office does not, such as package acceptance from all carriers, package notification via email and call in service, all with the goal of saving you valuable time.
• What is a mailbox service agreement? — The mailbox service agreement defines the terms and conditions of renting a private mailbox at the Island Pack & Ship Center.
• What will my mailing address look like? — Your mailing address will include the physical address of the Island Pack & Ship Center, along with your PMB (Private Mailbox) number. A sample address is: Jane Doe, 13 Bow Circle, PMB 123 (or # 123), Hilton Head Island, SC 29928.
• Can you hold my mail if I'm away? — Yes, we can hold your mail until you return from an extended business trip or a relaxing vacation. We ask that you pick up your mail on a regular basis, so please let us know if you plan to be away. We also offer a mail forwarding service for our snowbirds and for those who will be out of the area for an extended period.
• How long is my mail stored? — Your mail can be stored for as long as you need. Holding mail is free for the first 30 days. If you need storage for a longer period of time, there is an additional monthly fee.
• How do I know when I receive mail? — You are welcome to call or email us at anytime and we'll let you know if mail has arrived and if there are any pieces in your box. 
• Do you offer a mail forwarding service? — Our mail forwarding service ensures that you receive only the packages and letters that you want. Simply choose when and where you'd like them sent and we'll forward them to any destination in the world. You can choose the service level of forwarding, from First Call, Priority Mail, Priority Express, UPS, FedEx, and DLH. The cost for forwarding is $10 plus the cost of our regular shipping rates for your requested service.  This is a great service for snowbirds, RVers, students, military personnel, frequent travelers, and those living out of the area for extended periods.
• Can others who are not on the agreement receive mail at my mailbox?  — You can add the names of up to five individuals/businesses authorized to receive mail at your mailbox. Each recipient will need to provide two valid forms of identification in order to complete the necessary US Postal Form 1583. There is a $10 add-on fee for each additional name. You can authorize others to pick up your mail by loaning your key. Possession of the mailbox key shall be considered valid evidence that the possessor of the key is duly authorized to remove any contents from the mailbox. We cannot hand out mail to anyone not listed as the owner of the box.
• Can I set up a mailbox by phone? — Yes, you may set up a mailbox by phone by submitting US Postal Form 1583 and submitting copies of two forms of government issued photo IDs.
• Can I set up a mailbox for another person? — You may set up a mailbox for another person, provided they complete US Postal Form 1583 and provide two valid pieces of government issued photos IDs. If you will receive mail for an estate, please attach an executor's letter as well as power of attorney.
• Can I receive packages in my mailbox from various carriers? — With your mailbox agreement, you can receive packages from any carrier, including USPS, FedEx, UPS, and DHL. You can receive up to four packages per month without charge. After the fourth package, a $2 per package fee will apply. Additional fees will be charged for packages that exceed 25 pounds.
